English or Japanese Chaos Reports in UT?

We had a brief discussion on this in another thread a while ago, but I wanted to bring the topic up again. I'm still curious about whether the Universal Tuning release of the game used the original Japanese Chaos Reports, or if it used Japanese translations of the English reports.

The reports found in the English version differed drastically from those of the original Japanese release, substantially changing and clarifying the overall story.

If anyone knows the answer, I'd be grateful.

For translations of the Japanese Chaos Reports, see this FAQ:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/psp/file/939394/55511

For the English Chaos Reports, see either of these:

For the Japanese text of the original reports, see either this first web page for the text alone, or the second for a video (you'll need to register at Nico Nico Douga to watch videos there):

So this one user over on GameFAQs said they compared the Japanese text of the original reports with those in UT. They said they're unable to read Japanese, but that the UT reports differ from those in the links I provided.

Sounds like the English reports got translated for UT. Wish I could find confirmation of it somewhere myself.

Wow, well that's surprising. :monster:

I didn't think S-E would be so thorough or care. But that's good that they did.

Does anyone know if old savefiles work on UT? Or do I actually have to play through the whole thing to get the Cosmos/Chaos reports? I was hoping to take one of the perfect ones off Gamefaqs.

EDIT: Ok, quit google search says all saves work. So maybe I can get it sooner than I thought.

...Ok so I got a save off Gamefaqs which only had Cosmos report 7, and compared it to the one from http://playshinra.com/dissidia/museum/cosmos_report.html .

My japanese isn't perfect, but from what I can read, it seems to be exactly the same as the one from UT.

I'm trying to get another save right now that will hopefully have more, if not all the reports unlocked and get some screenshots.

EDIT: Ok, so some really interesting development. After checking 3 more Cosmos reports, they all ended up, pretty much exactly the same. However, the Chaos reports ended up being different. A few words are still there but its pretty obvious there were some changes. Again, my Japanese is just not good enough to make out the meaning of the differences, but there are definitely changes to the Chaos reports.

Sorry, double post here since I can only attach 5 imgs.

So the 5 imgs above have Cosmos Reports 3 and 5 (I also checked 6 and 7)

These 2 are Chaos Report 7.

Holy shit, that proves it! Thank you, Anzu! You're awesome! Taking a look at that Chaos Report you gave us, that is, indeed, the same report from the English version, just in Japanese.

You've settled this one! :) Great job, and thank you again! If it were possible to thank your posts twice, I'd do it.

So I guess there is an incentive for Japanese gamers to get Universal Tuning outside of having a better game.

The storyline will actually make coherent, relevant sense now. :wacky:

I was thinking the same thing. But at the very least, S-E was kind (and smart) enough to not make gamers who got the first version have to grind and work towards getting their save files back the way they were again with UT. That was really cool of them. Wish they could do that somewhat with all their international releases.

True about the English voices, but in terms of gameplay its better, and can't you turn the english voices off at least during gameplay?

You can for the battle voices, but if you waited for UT you'd still have to watch all the cutscenes in English. Which possibly sucks depending on your views on English voices if you're playing it for the first time.
