On May 12th, Square Enix released their Annual Earnings Report.
(Earnings have increased since last year.)

The company has also released their latest Executive Presentation, wherin you can find some insight (which you were probably already aware of) on Square Enix's goals for the previous year. A few noteworthy directives included:

Focusing on smart devices as a gaming platforms
Which I wholeheartedly disagree with because the world is already facing a zombie epidemic in relation to smart phones and inattentive pedestrians.

Acceleration of development cycles
To which I say: >_>
I think the answer to SquEnix's recent creeping-crawling development issue is that there are too many projects underway, and not enough of them are meaningful enough to make a significant difference in their earnings.

Launch of large-scale online titles developed by Western Studios (beginning this year)
To which I say: >_>

I see a lot of focus on smart devices and online gaming...
I'm not ignorant to the fact that these things are continuously growing in popularity, but I'm still glued to my NES and PS1 titles. I'm finding it hard to accept the change in SquEnix's directive. I'm just not a social gamer. :'(

Despite my personal feelings on the matter, I have faith in Square Enix...I really, really do. I'll be waiting for the next cosole title, and you can bet your ass I'm going to lay into it like a catfish on dogfood. :salute:

In other words they want to make a fast buck on crappy throwaway pick up and play stuff, probably with in-game purchases.
Acceleration of development cycles
I can wait, if it's going to be good I'll wait. SE's problem as far as I am concerned is that they havent produced anything worth waiting for since uh.....FFIX? :wacky:

Yeah, me neither. I get my 'social' element by going on line and talking with fellow obsessives. I don't give a shit about online games. I don't think there is a shortage of them especially in the RPG/fantasy genre. So yeah.

SE, I AM DISSAPOINT. But you knew that already anyway :monster:
