New Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners anime for 2026. The first one was pretty good, looking forward to this one.

the remake adds a second half to the game after the og story but i don't know if that's going to be the same '2-3 lines of set up' as part one. so i am just playing that now anyway, which will allow me to tick off one of the 50+ srw games off my list.
would you believe it that the addtional second half of the super robot wars 1 remake is... a repeat of the first part's story again but they changed the big bad at the end. i wasn't expecting a rich complex story or anything after playing the first half, but i was at least thinking the set up wouldn't be 'it's just like part 1'

started watching devilman, and when the monster of the week spoke i was like, hey's that's count brocken from mazinger z. so i went on wikipedia (because i was also sure that the kid brother in this was the same voice as shiro, the kid brother in mazinger z, but apparently it's not and i guess that was just a common voice for kid brothers in 70s tv anime). when looking at what else brocken's va had been in i saw he was in the early 2000s anime film metropolis, which i saw ages ago but i can't remember if i ever watched it with the japanese voices?

so i watched the early 2000s anime film metropolis, which isn't on my list of super robot wars anime. but it's a really nice looking film and i like the jazzy music.

also read the original osamu tezuka manga, which in contrast to the film (which took some inspiration from the fritz lang film) wikipedia says tezuka had never seen the film and didn't know what it was about and just saw the title and a still of maria being created in a magazine or something and just went "okay that's all i need to see" and made his own story up. still traumatised after the last time i tried to read a vaguely related manga based on something i watch, i thought surely osamu tezuka wouldn't show me anything like that iczer manga book

and it hasn't. but in like the first 5-10 pages there's a kind of racist caricature of some black characters in a big splash page for no real reason i can see (there's no dialogue for them and they never appear again). also a cliched depiction of a chinese character for a few pages. the back of the copy i read had an afterword mentioning the potential offensive depictures but promises that it wasn't out of malice and they didn't want to posthumously edit tezuka's work.

also about halfway through he just is straight up drawing mickey mouse and then a character says it's a species called like 'mickimouse waltdisneyni'. right before it hits you with a stereotypical depiction of some native americans who at least are being shown for a reason and not just in the back of a giant crowd shot. and then the mickey mice are back and i know tezuka was famous for his 'star system' of reusing characters but i'm pretty sure that's meant to be your own characters. it's lucky disney was seemingly not as litigious back in the 40s or whenever this was first published (and probably why not of that stuff made it into the film)

while i though it was alright, it's one of those cases where i think i prefer the adaption over the original. which might just be bias because i saw the film first, but still.
