Changes in English Dub would you like to see?

Since most of us would have seen ACC oneway or the other, what changes would you like to see in the English Dub?


I'm doubting they'll actually try to lip-synch the movie, but ACC had Marlene's VA replaced so I guess revoicing some characters isn't completely out of the question.

Characters that I would like VA changed: Aerith(maybe that VA from Crisis Core could voice her this time), Vincent(I like Blum's voice in general for a lot of animes, but his Vincent voice just sounded awful to me)


I liked Steve Burton as Cloud in general, but the part when he first says to Sephiroth always bugged me:

Cloud: Sephiroth, What do you want?

Burton just said the above line with no emotion at all. Japanese VA (think his name was Takashiro Sakurai?) voiced this part perectly with fear put in the voice. The English Dub just killed that moment for me.


Any other changes you guys would like to see?

Aren't they planning to just keep everything as it is, they're just releasing it at a later date? There already is an English dub, I can't imagine why they would make changes to a dub that they already changed.

I do think Burton could have expressed a little more emotion on some of his lines. I like Marlene's new VA because she expresses a little more emotion than the last VA, but I wish she was a little more surprised in that scene where she and Denzel are watching the ShinRa building and a water drop is heard. I also noticed that Kadaj's voice during the scene where we are watching from a camera attached to Elena trying to get to Tseng is a little too clear to be heard from a camera point of view, and it was also a little off.

They still have to translate a few of the menu options on the disk as well as add English subtitles. I just don't understand why could they have done that before and make it a world wide release, since they already took the time to do the Englidh dub.

ACC was released in Japan with Jap language and English dubs. So since they already dubbed it, I can't imagine what changes they'd make in two months. Perhaps dubbing Reminiscence. *shrugs*

A lot of things. But to avoiding the whole "change the entire thing" bit, the top of my list would include:

Dilly dally shilly shally. They need to change that shit to something that sounds less retarded to do justice to the meaning behind what was being said. Would it kill them to think a little harder on that?

Redo of Steve's delivery of "This is where a hero began his journey". My god. Steve's ok, but that was horrible.

Cook sounds bored all the time, especially with Marlene at the church. She was ok when Tifa was letting Cloud have it in the bedroom scene (woah, should I rephrase that?), but I wanted her to be more consistent (and natural).

There are some voices I don't mind at all. Vincent, Reno/Rude, Rufus, Seph... Zack, though Japanese VA sounds a tad more playful.

I especially like the english voices for the accented characters [Cid, Cait, ...Barrett]. It's something I personally would not catch in the Japanese version, and I like it. I love the english re-cast for Marlene; she did an adorable job immitating Barrett.

I prefer the english VA for Denzel better (solely for the 'Son of a bitch!' part) lol.

i didnt really mind the dub. the "dilly dally shilly shally" crap was just god awful, kadaj's scream when he held that box were the only things they should fix.

steve burton is a great voice actor for cloud, regardless of having emotion or not. hes just Cloud.

i did not like mena suvari as aerith though. but andrea bowen *aerith in CC* was pretty good, let alone better than mena.

And I agree with Reference, if Tifa's lines and voice were redone I prob wouldn't care about anyone else's.

Ugh, when I saw AC for the first time and heard Aerith's voice.. I got into one of those "WTF?!" moments. I'm sorry.. But Mena Suvari-Aerith sounded retarded and lazy.
Andrea Bowen fits Aerith perfectly.
And Rachel-Tifa just sounded bored in the church with Marlene. But then I liked her voice tho. :3 And I really don't mind Steve Burton playing Cloud. And when Cloud is screaming "Tifa!" in the church, it's probably because he was told to sound worried or something.. maybe?

They should either redo the entire voice acting with a Hollywood voice director and good actors, or just don't do an English dub at all.

Just watched the Eng dub yesterday, so here's a review (anything I didn't like is something I obviously would want to be changed):

First of, Rufus' delivery was just painful to listen to. Very lackluster, uninvolving delivery. They added so much needless dialogue between him and Cloud, and what he could've done is at least shown some effort delivering those lines, instead of plainly reading the damn paper. Won't even bother going to examples, because all of it goes.

Denzel's new voice actor was plain bad, which probably has something to do with me really liking the kid who voiced him in AC. Didn't live up to the standard set by his predecessor; he totally butchered every line, and the new ones where even worse - "whatever... like it matters anymore..." that was pretty much the last draw for me. The flashbacks were ok tho.

Marlene's replacement did very well, it was interesting to a see a totally different take on her convo with Cloud and Vincent, tho I must say that I liked her whinny, brat-ish predecessor’s voice more (ex. like "No! Cloud's not here yet" and "No! I don't!" were better in AC than ACC imo) Still, she deserves praise for her new scene with Cloud, which was great.

Rachel Lee Cook is a very different take on Tifa than her Japanese counterpart, and I must say I like the former better even though a lot of you complain. Yeah, the "Dilly Dally" was awkward and should have been dropped, but at least, she took the effort of matching her voice with Tifa's facial expressions. The Japanese voice actor voicing Tifa was so detached it was irritating. The bedroom scene; you can clearly see she is hurt and sad, yet the Japanese girl delivers her lines like Tifa's scolding Cloud for not cleaning his room and shit. Or, when they are in the Church, and Tifa sees Cloud's stuff on the floor, you can tell that made her sad, yet the delivery is so plain that you're confused. Cook defo had her problems, often times unconvincing delivery, yet at least you could feel some emotion, that's why she wins in my book.

Burton does a great Cloud, a prefer him to his Japanese counterpart any day. The new scene with Marline was where he truly shined, perfect delivery, very involving... tho, his last line "No, this is where A HE-RO began his journey", was awful, and totally ruins the impression. Way to make an encore, still like him tho.

Seffiros is great, I never complain about Newman voicing him, because he just adds something that really works for Seph.

Reno is among the best and his new scene with Rude was great, yet the way they changed their dialogue when they talk to Yazoo/Loz near the Meteor monument, was awful; they should have kept the "Why, the peons aren't trusted?", which is a somewhat confusing line, but eventually works.

Kadaj's extra dialogue was pretty good I thought, and well delivered, but the voice actor needs to cut down on the whining, because at a certain point it gets very annoying.

Zack... Zack is my favorite character and my favorite voice actor. There is just so much charisma there I can't help it... and I do hold a bit of a bias, granted. Crisis Core was a fine experience, mostly due to Zack, so the new scenes were very nostalgic and his new lines were very well delived.

Pretty much it, tho the support dialogue of random people and kids was a bit bad, unnecessary and overall intrusive at places as well. Just my few cents. Watching the English dub made me not like the movie, even tho I was blown-away by it when watching it in Japanese, lesson? Eye candy is still eye candy, tho it could‘ve been good of sure.

Some of the lines look like they just did it one damn take and just left it. There needs to be better directing and acting. Some of the lines sound awesome, like the scene with Marlene and Cloud, while others just sound dead. I don't get it.

She does have her problems, even in the bedroom scene... "you've got.. geo.. stigma, don't you?" - in rather confused voice, like she's trying to understand her own handwritting when reading her lines. she could've been a bit more enthusiastic with the whole "let's fight it together"-thing. But, that's still better than Ayumi Ito, that's absolutely meh in that scene. If Ito could've brought her Last Order charm to the set, I probably would not complain that much.

Convincing? Her acting was notably flat and almost completely devoid of personality or interest. Any time she was meant to have any real emotion, she sounded really uninterested in what was going on.
