You Tube?

So my husband likes watching video game streams (i.e. watching people play video games and talk about it).

I was thinking about trying my hand at it, but doing youtube videos instead of live streams. The thing is, I'm not a gamer, the point would basically be watch a non-gamer attempt video games and react to everything.

Can I get some feed back on if this would be a good idea/interesting?

I filmed me playing part of FFVII a couple years ago.

So basically random comments on scenery...

0:32 - I really love Aeris a lot.

I'm about to witness dreams being crushed aren't I?

But yeah my friends at Clan Cur and I do a lot of Let's Plays. They're really fun, even if you don't get a huge audience because it's fun to go back and watch you play these games over again, especially when you are playing alongside your friends. I'd be totally down to see you do stuff. Hell maybe we could work out a collab!

Sure, I watch plenty of these kind of things. Would love to do it if I had any of the relevant equipment/knowledge.

What games do you have in mind?

The easiest way to get started is with PC Games or Steam, and by using a program called FRAPS. It's a paid program, but it's incredibly versatile.

"Non-gamer reacts to video games" isn't a new concept, but that doesn't mean it is a bad one. Reaction and Let's Play videos can be pretty interesting, but a lot of factors go into making such videos popular, if that's what you're after. I'd do a little research into it if that's the case. There are books on how to make interesting content on youtube based on the experiences of youtube celebs... books that are quickly out of date in the quickly-changing environment of social media :P.

TL;DR: It seems to involve a lot of effort :P. I liken it to trying to be a famous artist. You have to be savvy about a lot of things, and have an enduring passion, if you want more than just 15 minutes in the limelight, and that is if you get it to begin with.

Then again, if I'm not mistaken (<--disclaimer :awesome:), you seem to have at least a following already, so perhaps you have at least some of these skills. Whatever reputable brand you may have already built for yourself, I'd exploit to your advantage anyway. There's likely some crossover of interests in whoever follows your activities.

If you're just doing it for fun though, dive right in. Put your own spin on things; experiment with ideas (You should do this anyway :P). The thing about youtube community culture that is different to a lot of other social media of its kind (video content websites) is the whole memetics thing. You borrow an idea, and you change it a little, test it out. Those who beat the same old dead horse tend not to last long.

Yeah, just for fun, and mostly for people who all ready follow me on tumblr and such.

I was going to play games I like, but have never played through (like most of the KH series - I'm a script reader...)

Good to know other people do it, so I'm not going to be made funof for sucking.

You probably will be, but just remember, that happens to basically everyone everyone, regardless of how skilled or unskilled they are.
