They are, sure. Zack is still trucking, away from the place we know him to die. After surviving the Shinra onslaught and picking up Cloud again, destroying what happened in the Crisis Core this follows right up until the point destiny was defeated. How little is gained by this in your eyes...

People like Zack, and this is a way to give him a happy ending. It gives hope that in this timeline where they've thrown off the shackles of fate that led them to the horrid future that is Advent Children, Aerith can (but probably won't) share his fortune.
